This week’s email newsletter article is:
- Adding a Command Window and a Run Command to Windows 8 and Windows 7
Subscriber Gary wrote me after a recent newsletter to ask:
Terry — your article about MSconfig made me realize that I have an issue:
I’ve had this 7 Acer laptop for some time, but I must have been using the XP desktop for
the Run command and for the DOS window.
I can’t find either of these on this 7. Is it right under my nose, or what??
In the case of Windows 7, I’ve previously written about adding the Run command to the Windows Start Menu. You can find out how in my article Adding the Run Command to the Windows 7 Start Menu.
Once you have added it, […]

Subscriber Peg had some interesting problems with her Windows 7 computer recently — and that’s "interesting" as in "I sure didn’t want THAT to happen and I wonder why it did…"
I have a problem and do not know how to solve it. In fact, I’ve never heard of the problem or seen reference to it on the internet or any of your news letters, which I faithfully read.
For some reason, all entries on the msconfig start menu but one […]
I’ve been experimenting with EaseUS Partition Master 9.1.1 Home Edition for a while and am impressed with it.
First, it enables easy resizing and moving of hard drive partitions, copying a partition, merging partitions, defragment a partition, changing hard drive labels, and, by the way, without destroying your data (you should always back up your system first, anyway).

I’ve used similar programs for years because I don’t like to store everything on my C: drive. It makes backing up the C: drive take more space and take longer […]
Long-time subscriber Mike G. wrote to ask about a frustrating issue that crept in with a new Internet Explorer version…

I am running Internet Explorer 11.0.9600; update version 220.127.116.1100.
I recently modified my home network to increase the accessibility of my printers. I have two printers. Now, both of them work with my desktop computers, my wireless laptop, our iPhones and my wife’s iPad. Installation and setup was surprisingly easy, too.
One printer is an HP Color Laserjet CP1518ni, which is built to be a network printer with its own IP address (no “Windows File & Printer Sharing” necessary). It hooks to the network via an Ethernet cable. The other printer is an older model, an HP Laserjet 1220se […]

I love the redesign of my Terry’s Computer Tips web site — it makes article posting and maintenance much easier than before. I’m glad I switched to WordPress and the Genesis Framework. On my Terry’s Computer Tips site, I’m using the base Genesis Framework with a child theme of my own to customize it.
