TCT Newsletter September 12, 2010

This week’s email newsletter articles are:

  • Emailing Directly From OpenOffice

Subscriber Keith wrote with question about backing up his Outlook data and configuration:

Hey Terry, I’m a new recipient of your newsletter and I think it’s a great service you’re providing.

I do have a question; I moved to Win7 when first available from XP so quite a few things changed when I did. I’m using the pop3 email using Zimbra, provided by Comcast cable internet as part of their SmartZone Communications Center. I also opted to use the Open Office Suite as my word processor, etc. There’s a function in Open Office for sending work directly from the Open Office word processor to email.

I’ve tried to do this but get a message from O.O…

  • My Redesigned Terry’s Computer Tips Site – The First Week…

In last week’s email newsletter, I mentioned that I had been hard at work on a major redesign of my Terry’s Computer Tips web site, and that it had finally gone live on Friday, September 3, 2010.

I expected to find a few problems, and I did… I think I’ve got them solved now.

  • This Week On-Line

This week online:

With my new design of my Terry’s Computer Tips web site, I now publish articles individually rather than as an on-line issue. That also means that I can link directly to the articles, as I’ve done below:

    • The Computer Freezes Up Intermittently
Long-time subscriber Tom Linton wrote to ask for suggestions to help him solve an intermittent computer freeze-up problem. Tom also included links to a couple of his photo sites — don’t miss them…
    • Backing Up Your Outlook Data Files
I have written a number of articles about backing up and restoring Outlook Express email files and folders. This time, subscriber Keith wrote with question about backing up his Outlook data and configuration.
    • Laptop Wireless Card and Router Doesn’t Work

      http://www.terryscomputertips.com/computers/laptop-wireless-card-and-router-doesnt-work/

New subscriber Al Rogenski wrote to ask about wireless Internet access. He has a card in his laptop and a router, but they won’t talk together.

    • My Computer Security Recommendations

My recommendations for anti-virus, anti-spyware, firewall, anti-spam software, system control software and backup software.

I’ve also included my recommendations for wired and wireless routers, as well as add-on USB Wireless-N adapters.

This week’s email newsletter is now available:

Remember — the email articles are not immediately posted to the site (and some time-specific ones may never be…) — you have to sign up for the email newsletter to get those articles!
