I got an email this week from gsmisra who was having problems with web site display in his web browser:
I have a web page having following format
CE19023 -50+100 MESH
But when I get it through web query it changes to following format.
CE19023 -50? MESH
[NOTE: My editor replaced the ideographic with the question mark character “?” – Terry]
Pl. help how to eliminate it.
I wrote back to GSM to tell him that I’m not sure how to solve it.
It appears that he’s viewing a web page using one “character set” but that the web query is presenting it in a different character set, where the particular sequence of bytes is causing a different ideographic character to display.
If it’s your web page, as in your web site, be sure to specify the character set in a meta tag in the page header. An example is:
which sets the character set to UTF-8.
