There’s a great site that you might not have found before — The World Factbook, which is published by the CIA. That’s right, this is the same CIA that is the U.S. Government’s Central Intelligence Agency.
Quoting the web site: "The World Factbook is prepared by the Central Intelligence Agency for the use of US Government officials, and the style, format, coverage, and content are designed to meet their specific requirements." Even better, they make this same information available to everyone.
Whether you’re looking for population, principal products, size/area, boundary countries, climate, terrain & elevation, natural resource information, statistics about the population, the government, the economy, transportattion or many other types of information, this web site is an easy place to find it.
Do you need a map of the world? A map of a continent? A political map or a geophysical map? Do you want it as a JPG imate — or better, yet, a PDF image that you can zoom?
Does your son or daughter need to do some research for a school report? Send them here.
You can also download The World Factbook and install it on your own computer – it’s only 38 MB in one big file for broadband users, or in a bunch of small files for dialup or other slow-speed users.
The World Factbook is in the public domain, although the CIA Seal is not. See https://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/docs/contributor_copyright.html for more information.
