This week, subscriber Carolyn Waterson wrote with a new problem — new, as in it had just happened…
Problems again! I tried to check and see if you have answered this question before but on your new website, I am totally lost and cannot find the list of topics answered I’m afraid!
My problem is every time I click on a link within an Email, e.g. a house listing from a real estate agent …. All I get is Locate Link Browser box with all My Documents folders listed. I have no idea what I might have done to cause this, but I am using a fairly new Sony Vaio and the VAIO Care ran yesterday and I’ve had the problem ever since!
Since she had a good handle on what had changed in her computer, and because it had just happened, Carolyn was going to be in luck.
I wrote back to Carolyn to ask if she had tried using System Restore to put her Windows configuration settings back to what they had been before the VAIO Care ran.
She wrote back to report success:
System restore solved the problem – just took me a while to figure out how to do it!!!
Windows’ System Restore has improved significantly since the days of GoBack on Windows Me and the System Restore in Windows XP.
I’ve found it useful several times — for example, when I “disabled” the audio function on my video card’s HDMI connection, Windows 7 removed the device. Rebooting didn’t solve it either, unlike removing the driver for a different type of hardware device. System Restore came to my rescue.
