I have to format and re-install XP or move to Win 7. The OS and programs are on C: but all data on a separate drive.
Rather than re-installing all my programs can I use Acronis Migrate easy to copy the programs, install a new copy of XP and copy the programs back with migrate easy.
Would it be better to use True Image or most likely neither will work because programs would no longer be in the registry?
I wrote back to tell John that I can’t advise him on Acronis Migrate or the migration function of ATIH, as I’ve never used either.
I always reinstall programs rather than try to migrate them.
However, whenever you reinstall or install programs on a new computer, don’t forget to check the program manufacturer’s web site for new versions of the programs. You may also find program patches that you can apply that fix bugs or provide additional functions.
For example, if you have ATIH 2009 from September 2008, there were two later releases of ATIH 2009. To get access to them, you have to register your license for Acronis True Image Home 2009.
Similarly, if you have freeware, shareware or other download programs, be sure to check for the latest versions of them.
