Subscriber David Forness wrote to ask how to solve a problem with his computer. Sometimes, grandchildren play with the settings or otherwise leave problems…
Our granddaughter was using my wife’s computer last Thursday night and now all IE8 windows open minimized. Clicking a shortcut on the desktop open the associated window the same way. If I double click where the web address is on the top of the tool bar or move to the first line above the top of the desktop and create a double ended arrow, I can drag the line down to open the window.
Obviously the double ended arrow is indicating that the window has ended up minimized at the top of the desktop.
So far everything that I have tried hasn’t fixed the problem. Her computer has Windows 7.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I wrote back to David to suggest that Internet Explorer was changed to open in minimized mode.
He could fix that through the following:
- Click on the Start menu
- select "All Programs"
- right-click on Internet Explorer
- select Properties
- select the Shortcuts tab
- next to the Run: label, use the pulldown to select "Normal window" instead of "Minimized"
