Firefox Questions

New subscriber Sami wrote to ask about a confusing Firefox dialog box:

Hi Terrry,

Will you please solve my problem? I have installed fire fox 3.5.1 but when i open some times it opens once only but when I try to open second window by clicking icon or ctrl+N (New Window) in file menu it doesn’t response( New tab opens).

On top of it when I close the computer message appears “save and quit”when there is no firefox window open , it means it is open but somewhere in background. What may be the reason.

It was not before , recently this problem has occurred. And the same time in my child’s account it is quite all right I can open as many windows as I want

Please see the attachment and guide me at your earliest

With Best Regards.

Sami

Sami actually had two questions in his message. I wrote back to Sami to explain what he was seeing and how to solve the problems.

First, when tries to open a new window, Firefox actually opens a new tab and not a new window.

One of the Firefox options allows you to force requests for new windows to open in new tabs. It sounds like he has that option set.

The control is in the Tools > Options dialog box. Select the Tabs selection at the top of the dialog box. The first item has a pull-down option menu labelled "Open links that open in a new window in:". The options are New Window, New Tab and Current Window.

The Save and Quit message he is seeing is because he had Firefox open with multiple tabs displayed. If he had closed all the tabs except one, he would not have received the warning message.

Note the question "Do you want Firefox to save your tabs and windows for the next time it starts?"

It’s asking about the tabs and windows he had open, even though Firefox’s windows have already closed, so he’s was not seeing those tabs and windows at the time Firefox asked the question.

The solution is that you have to answer that question. Most people put a check in the checkbox for "do not ask next time" before they click the Quit button.
