I got an email this week asking for help with drivers for Windows XP for some older equipment:
I got your website from [name removed] who thought it would benefit me. I recently got a new computer which has Windows XP, my old computer has ME. I’m not having any luck adding the software and hardware for my scanner, Visioneer 7600, and my HP Officejet 520. I tried going to their websites to try to get the correct driver but no luck. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Sometimes that’s what happens. Manufacturers choose not to release new drivers for later operating systems — in order to force you to buy a new model.
Google showed me the following that should help you on the Visioneer:
http://www.visioneer-europe.com/support/faqs/15.htm
On the HP, the only thing I turned up that looks like it addresses
the issue s this:
http://www.scanner-drivers.com/drivers/185/185471.htm
HOWEVER, I have no experience with either this site or the one it
points to for the driver I suggest you make sure your antivirus and
antispyware software are up to date before downloading from a strange site.
If you are not running an “always running” antispyware/antiadware
package, I use and recommend VIPRE Antivirus Premium which has a 30 day free trial —and includes Sunbelt’s firewall, too. Or, you can use VIPRE Antivirus if you want to use a third-party firewall (I like Sunbelt’s).
