Eudora Open Source Edition (Eudora OSE) Followup

I started using Eudora Open Source Edition as soon as I knew that it was available (A First Look at Eudora OSE). Within days, I stopped running a parallel version with my earlier Eudora version, and began using Eudora OSE as my primary email program.

That was last November. Since then, I’ve continued with Eudora OSE and been happy with it.

The only real issue I have is that it is now a variation of Mozilla Thunderbird. However, it’s more than just Thunderbird with a different "skin" on it. Eudora OSE required some changes to the basic code of Thunderbird in order to provide some of the functionality needed for Eudora.

So what’s the problem?

So far, there have not been any updates to Eudora OSE from the initial v1.0 release. Meanwhile, there have been several releases of Thunderbird, which included security fixes.

Is that a real problem? I’m not sure, but that is a basic problem with derivative products, whether it’s a modified web browser based on IE or an email program based on Thunderbird.

Meanwhile, I like it and I’m using it.
