Perhaps the aweber.com site was doing maintenance when you tried to use it. Aweber is the e-mail service that I use to manage my newsletter subscriptions.
Frank wrote back in surprise:

I dont know if this is the correct format for asking a question but here goes anyway.
I downloaded something that puts a green check mark covering most of the image on my pictures. It goes away when i click on the pic but its a pain having the check mark covering most of the thumbnail.

Several comments indicated that Norton 360 was causing a similar problem.
Frank wrote back to say:
I am using norton security suite through comcast, with windows 7. I tried the suggestion in the link but it didnt remove them. In fact it made it very difficult to even open the norton icon on the task bar. I finally got it open and rechecked the box. I also ran Norton power eraser nada there.
He followed up with this message:
