Recently, subscriber Scott Adler wrote to me about his experiences with the online backup system. He wasn’t happy…
He had been web based back up system and needed to rebuild his computer files to restore his computer. He reported that he found the restoration process difficult because he had to reinstall the system and then reinstall the backup software before he could start restoring data files. He found the process awkward. He thought I recommended a program called "ZipBackup." He asked it ZipBackup easily restores files and documents to their proper place after programs have been reloaded??
I wrote back to Scott to tell him that I’d never heard of "ZipBackup."
I recommend Acronis True Image for system backup.
I back up across my home network to a folder on another computer or I back up to an external drive. I can restore the entire hard drive from the backup images, as well as using the differential or incremental backups, or restore individual files and folders from the backups.
The latest version, Acronis True Image Home 2009 has a lot of new features, including the ability to make the backups in standard zip formats, as an alternative to making them in Acronis’ proprietary backup format.
