Long-time subscriber Jack Carmena wrote to ask about new problems he was having with Windows Live Mail:
Starting two weeks ago, my Windows Live Mail, has been going in and out, mostly out with my AT&T DSL line.
I have talked to them (AT&T Tech Services) six times and they all say my settings are correct and it is a Microsoft problem. It worked fine for a year with my Windows 7, 64 bit computer but all of a sudden, it won’t fly.
It tells me I have an improper password.
When Googling this issue, I am not alone as many others have experienced it starting a lot earlier than when mine started. One site even stated that AT&T and Yahoo had recently changed settings on their servers which caused the two, AT&T/Yahoo and Microsoft Live Mail to become incompatible.
I know over the years you have touted Thunbderbird as your email client.
What are your recommendations? Should I find another Microsoft email program or go to a third party like Thunderbird? In the meantime, I have had no problems with AT&T web mail which I use during these frequent annoying outages, but I don’t care for the web mail.
Your thoughts please.
I wrote back to Jack to say that I haven’t used Windows Live Mail, so I’m shooting in the dark with a suggestikon
Sometimes, simply resetting the problem value will solve the issue, so I asked if he had tried changing his password in the program.
Change it to something else in Live Mail, but not on AT&T. This will obviously fail when you try to get your email. Then, change it back to the right password in Windows Live Mail.
The concept is that the change process will touch (and set) all the proper settings. It could be that a value has gotten corrupted and is not internally consistent within your Live Mail configuration.
Regarding the possibility of shifting to Thunderbird, I do like Thunderbird. But, if you’re happy with Live Mail, keep trying to get it to work.
