8.  Just for Fun - and a little information, too

I usually visit Slashdot (also known as /. and www.slashdot.org), one of the computer geek sites, at least once a day. This site often has some breaking news, but it is news of an off-beat nature. While Slashdot runs custom-developed discussion software, but basically is a blog with a lot of comments.

Unlike other blogs, however, the blog article is just a kick-off to discussion. The real "meat" to Slashdot is the interaction of the Slashdot posters. Sometimes insightful, sometimes dull, sometimes funny and sometimes obnoxious, the comments range from one-liners to 300-400 words. Slashdot also has a rating system for comments, where members are asked to rate or meta-moderate the ratings that have already been assigned to individual comments.

Anyway, that's a long introduction to the meat of this article -- Post-Gazette.com posted a nice, long article about a new robotics book, with a twist. The author is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University's Robotics Institute.

Read a little about "How to Survive a Robot Uprising: Tips on Defending Yourself Against the Coming Rebellion" in my new Terry's Computer Tips - the blog.

With obvious humor, at least I hope it is intended as humor, the author of this book talks about the inevitable introduction of "smart" devices into our lives.
