7. Changing Your Default Web Browser
One of the nice things about web browsers, like Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, Netscape and others, is that you can install a lot of them on your computer. They don't interfere with each other. You can try each to see if you like it. You can even run several at the same time — I often do when I'm designing web sites. And, You can make any ONE of them your default web browser.
By default, as you start each of the web browsers, they will check to see if they're the default. If not, each wil ask you if you want it to be the default - and each will also allow you to tell it "not to check to see if it is the default."
Once you've told a web browser to not to check to see if it's the default, making it the default takes a little more effort.
Recently, Reader EJ wrote to ask about making a different web browser his default.
I have 3 browsers on my computer. Can anyone tell me how to make Firefox my primary. Now it is going to Netscape.

If you're allowing Firefox to check to see if it's the default web browser every time it starts, the change is easy. Just start Firefox, and, when it says it's not the default, click the button to make it the default.
But, if you told Firefox not to check, you can still make the change. You'll find the right dialog box by selecting (from Firefox's menu bar) Tools, then Options, and the Main tab.
The bottom section of the Main tab is "System Defaults." First, put a checkmark in the box "Always check to see if Firefox is the default browser on startup."
Then, click on the Check Now button to force the check without having to exit and restart Firefox.

Then, click OK to get Firefox to remember your changes.
Other web browsers have similar processes that can make them the default browser.
