7.  "Receiving Multiple Copies of Emails

Subscriber Ewan G. Cameron wrote from the UK to ask:

Dear Terry, I've been receiving your tips, etc., for some time now & I've found them to be most helpful & at the same time, very informative.     Thank You.     My query is that I get a large number of eMails (say 40-50 a day), 99% of which are solicited, the other 1pc not worth bothering about. My problem is that of these 99% many of them are duplicated. ie 3/4 of the same every time. I've contacted those who send them to 'refrain from sending more than one of the same email per day/week' but the problem persists.    I'm not all that computer literate having using a pc for just over a year : Is this spam, or what? How can this situation be stopped other than unscribing to the firms that send them? (Which I really don't want to do).     Many thanks for your help     Ewan GC

This does not sound like a spam problem to me, although I do see a few spammers that send me 10-15 copies of the same mail so that I _see_it.

It sounds like a problem with your email program, your ISP's email server or with your connection to it.

First, let me say that I have not seen this particular problem before. Having said that, I am familiar with bad phone line connections when sending emails causing multiple copies to be sent.

The connection problem could be the ISP's modem, the phone lines, your phone lines in your house, your phone line connecting the computer to the wall jack, or your computer's modem.

If you connect by dialup, you might try a different phone number for your ISP.

You might unsubscribe from one of those firms and subscribe with an online ID such as a yahoo email account or a gmail account -- and see if you get the multiple emails on it.

Good luck. I really think it is a communications-related problem.

And, one last thought -- you might have signed up multiple times for the emails? Perhaps using differnet addresses...
